Defining Hazardous Waste

The term waste can be anything in solid, liquid or gaseous form that is discarded by being incinerated, recycled or simply disposed of. In order for the waste to be considered hazardous, it is either already listed in the Code of Federal Regulations or demonstrates one of the following characteristics:

  • Combustible
  • Corrodes metal
  • Unstable or explosive
  • Harmful or fatal when ingested
